Mad Collective Connection BIO: A Band Destined To Be
Some meetings in life are more than chance—they are written in the stars, guided by unseen forces, and bound by something greater than time or distance. Mad Collective Connection was never just a band; it was always meant to be. Each member walked a different path, but their souls were moving toward the same destination, drawn together by the universal rhythm of reggae.
Dom & Abi: Two Souls, One Rhythm
Long before they met, Dom and Abi were unknowingly connected, moving through the same musical circles in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Both were drawn to the heartbeat of reggae, playing in the legendary band Laser, though never at the same time. Abi held down the bass between 1987 and 1989 before life carried him elsewhere. Just as he departed, Dom stepped in as the band’s lead singer from 1989 to 1991. Though they never crossed paths in Freetown, their spirits were already intertwined, connected by the same rhythm that pulsed through the city.
The war that tore Sierra Leone apart sent Dom across the ocean as a refugee, searching for a place to rebuild his life. Abi’s journey was different—led by love and purpose, he traveled the world with Doctors Without Borders, met his New Zealand wife, and eventually settled in Australia.
It wasn’t until 2010, on the shores of Sydney, that their paths finally converged. The connection was instant, as if they had always known each other. They began playing together, but fate wasn’t done with them yet. Abi’s work took him overseas, yet their music never stopped. Through late-night Facetime jams between South Africa and Sydney, they kept the groove alive, their bond wasn’t phased by distance.
Later, in 2018 they were reunited again. Abi settled on the Gold Coast after making a permanent return to Australia. At the same time, Dom had decided to move to the warmer climate of the Gold Coast, and the two of them rekindled the flame that had been waiting for the proper opportunity.
Mystic: A Meeting Written in the Stars
Then came the night in 2020, when destiny knocked on their door once again.
One evening, while jamming, Dom and Abi ran out of ganja—their sacred herb, the ancient gift of the earth that had fueled countless musical sessions. With their usual sources closed for the night, they sought out a friend on the Gold Coast, hoping he could provide some ganja. They got their weed, but in the process they discovered Mystic.
Mystic.
At first, it was just a casual meeting—a new face, a shared love of reggae. But then recognition flickered in Dom’s eyes. He had seen Mystic long ago, in another life, as they both prepared to leave their war-torn homeland.
Back then, Mystic had been sent to Norway, an unfamiliar land where the cold cut deeper than anything he had ever known. Months later, Mystic was granted entry to Australia, settling first in Sydney, then several years later he ventured to the Gold Coast—right where he needed to be for this moment to happen.
The three men talked late into the night, their stories interwoven that it is incredible that they had been so close but yet so far. Mystic’s energetic voice complimented Dom’s deep, rich, and soulful bass vocals, while Abi’s bassline held it all together. Something clicked. It wasn’t just music; it was a reunion of souls long separated, now finding their way back to each other.
Abi’s work, unfortunately, pull him away to the Northern Territory for a time, but the foundation had been laid. Dom and Mystic continued crafting their sound, waiting for the right moment—the right energy—to take things to the next level.
Zodiac: The Final Piece of the Puzzle

That moment arrived in 2024, when fate led them to one last missing piece.
Zodiac had spent years in the fast-paced world of business, but something inside him was restless. He had walked away from it all to travel the world, searching for something deeper—something real. When he finally returned to the Gold Coast, looking to rebuild his life with more meaning, he met Mystic.
They shared a few drinks and conversation which turned into friendship, although music was never part of the equation.
Then, Zodiac felt a calling.
As a teenager, he had played guitar in a rock band, but was more drawn to the hypnotic offbeat of The Police and the spiritual depth of Bob Marley. He had left guitar behind when the business world took him in other directions, but now, the music was calling him back.
One evening, sharing beers and ganja with Mystic and Dom, they noticed the guitar leaning against the wall.
“Do you play?” they asked.
Zodiac hesitated. “I used to.”
Zodiac picked up his new purchase and tried to remember some songs from his distant past. He started with a few old tracks, then let the rhythm carry him into some Marley classics. Mystic and Dom couldn’t believe it, they exchanged a knowing look—the kind of look that meant something bigger was at play.
“We are a Reggae duo but we want to be more. Do you want to be one of us,” they said.
And just like that, Mad Collective Connection was whole.
A Band United by Fate
Some bands are formed by choice. Others are called into existence by something greater.
Mad Collective Connection is the latter. A group of souls who, through war, travel, struggle, and time, were always meant to find one another. From the reggae rhythms of Freetown to the refugee camps of Europe, from the humanitarian missions of Africa to the corporate towers of Australia, they walked different roads but were always moving toward the same sound.
There is more to reggae than just music. It’s a vibration sharing stories of survival, togetherness, and the unseen bonds that bind us all together.
